Linda Mason is the Chair of Portland,Oregon-based Mercy Corps. She has traveled the world in an effort to bring relief and encouragement to families in crisis by working with a number of relief organizations, including those founded by her. The Mercy Corps executive holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management. Linda Mason’s education and entrepreneurial skills led her to cofound Bright Horizons Family solutions as well as Horizons for Homeless Children. Both are organizations that serve young children and families.
Upon graduating from business school, Linda Mason managed a Cambodian relief program, helping to feed children in the Vietnam invastion of Cambodia in 1979. Throughout the mid-1980s, she dedicated her time to addressing the Sudanese famine through co-directing the Save the Children program.
Her first business entrepreneurial venture came in 1986 with the creation of Bright Horizons Family Solutions. The organization provides child care, elder care, and educational advising. The company employs over 20,000 people across the US and in Europe. Clients include the U.N., the U.S. General Services Administration, Yale University, and Motorola. Linda Mason later cofounded Boston-based Horizons for Homeless Children, an organization providing childcare to homeless children and related services to their parents.
Linda Mason’s current efforts at Mercy Corps are aimed at easing poverty throughout the world and assisting families in disaster areas through community development and food provision, especially in the Middle East and Africa.
