Radiologist Dr. Sammie I. Long has spent most of her medical education and career in the South, with the exception of some time on the West Coast and in the Northeast. A native of Alabama, she underwent her undergraduate education at Tougaloo College in Mississippi before earning her doctor of medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Initially expressing interest in pediatrics, Dr. Sammie I. Long performed an internship and residency in that specialty at Meharry Medical College but then shifted her focus to radiology. After studying the subject at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C., and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, she performed a residency in radiology at Hubbard Hospital in Nashville.
The rest of Dr. Sammie I. Long’s postgraduate training in radiology took her to the West Coast and the Northeast. From 1975 to 1977, she lived in Loma Linda, California, and performed a combined residency and fellowship in cardiovascular diagnostic radiology at Loma Linda University. From 1981 to 1983, she lived in Boston, Massachusetts, and served as a fellow in cardiovascular and interventional radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Sammie I. Long has since spent the majority of her career in the South, and she lives in Alabama and Tennessee.
