Business student Aziza Kendrick maintains a 3.78 grade point average in a dual-degree accounting program at the University of St. Thomas, while also working full time and volunteering for community groups. A highly motivated individual, Ms. Kendrick received dean’s list honors from 2008 to 2010 and was awarded an Accounting Society Scholarship in 2010. She is a member of the Texas Certified Public Accountant Society and the Delta Mu International Business Honors Society.
As a Legal Assistant for Shepherd, Smith, Edwards & Kantas, LTD, LLP, in Houston, Aziza Kendrick currently applies her business and accounting background to assist the firm’s partners in representing clients who have lost investment funds through fraud, omission, or misrepresentation. In this role, Ms. Kendrick also manages client expense accounts and accounts receivable/payable. Additionally, she works with a financial analyst on reviewing clients’ investment portfolios and account statements, along with writing, proofreading, and editing legal briefs and articles. Earlier, Ms. Kendrick worked as a Legal Assistant at the offices of Gina Palmer, Attorney at Law. She was responsible for financial recordkeeping, preparing tax reports on a quarterly basis, and maintaining accurate business accounts. She also assisted attorneys during depositions and conducted research to draft legal documents.
Aziza Kendrick has also used her accounting experience to help others in her community. She has volunteered with the IRS’ VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program, helping lower-income individuals prepare their tax returns and offering advice regarding any special tax credits they can use.
