Randy Thieben is an expert video storyteller at Migrant Media Productions as well as the owner and operator of Central Coast Uplink. As a visual storyteller at Migrant Media Productions since 1995, Randy Thieben creates educational training films for the New Teachers Center at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Additionally, established in 2000, Randy Thieben’s Central Coast Uplink mobile KU satellite uplink van is the only dual-path uplink and downlink full-service company in the Central Coast of California. Mr. Thieben’s team at Central Coast Uplink is experienced in covering breaking news, sporting events, natural disasters, elections, and other special entertainment events. Furthermore, Mr. Thieben and his news team won a 2010 Emmy for the best live, on-location newscast of the San Diego Fires for ABC News.
Before founding his own business, Randy Thieben worked in the broadcast media industry for 15 years. From 1990 to 2005, he was an award-winning visual storyteller, editor, local news photographer, and live truck operator with the WBFF public broadcast television company in Baltimore, Maryland.
Outside of his professional career, Randy Thieben participates in community service activities with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America in addition to donating to the charitable Frostig Center to help children with learning disabilities. He is a member of several organizations, including the National Press Photographers’ Association, the Sierra Club, the American Homebrewers Association, and the Disc Golf Association. Although he has made a living out of his true passion for videography and photography, Mr. Thieben also enjoys mountain biking, skiing, swimming, playing Ultimate Frisbee, reading non-fiction books, and sending radio signals into deep space.
