Over the course of the past two decades, Dr. John Charles Gerancher has enjoyed an outstanding career in anesthesiology and academia. Since 1999, he has held a number of positions at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. John Charles Gerancher joined the school as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology. He was made an Associate Professor in 2002 and then Section Head of Regional Anesthetics and Acute Pain Management the following year. From 2006 until 2008, he served as the Medical Director of Anesthesia Information Management Systems for the school’s Medical Center. Dr. JC Gerancher spent the next three years as the Medical Director of the center’s Surgical Services Informatics division. He achieved full professorship in 2009.

Years previous to his eventual career at Wake Forest, Dr. John Charles Gerancher had spent a brief period, from 1996 to 1997, as an assistant professor there before leaving to teach at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. JC Gerancher commenced his career in 1995 as an anesthesiologist with Forsyth Anesthesia Associates at Medical Park Hospital.

Prior to launching his career, Dr. John Charles Gerancher earned his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Haverford College, where he received departmental honors. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Dr. JC Gerancher then completed an internship in internal medicine through Oregon Health Sciences University. This was followed by a residency in anesthesiology at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. JC Gerancher completed his training with a fellowship in regional anesthesiology at the Virginia Mason Clinic.

Out of his dedication to helping people in need, Dr. John Charles Gerancher provides support to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Industries for the Blind, and the North Carolina Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairment.
