As the Governor of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Delaware, John Kai Lassen has committed the organization to a program of education and membership growth to keep the story of America’s Pilgrim ancestors and the legacy they passed on to our nation alive. The society asserts that the Mayflower passengers have produced millions of descendants, counting among their number such luminaries as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Clint Eastwood, Humphrey Bogart, and Thomas Lanier “Tennessee” Williams III. Kai Lassen traces his ancestry to Mayflower passenger and Compact signer Richard Warren.
In his life and activities, Mr. Lassen demonstrates a deep commitment to researching and learning from history. In addition to his involvement with organizations like the Society of Mayflower Descendants, he serves as the Vice President of the Huguenot Society of Delaware and belongs to the Sons of the American Revolution. Kai Lassen also holds membership in the General Society of Colonial Wars and General Society of the War of 1812.
As a young man, John Kai Lassen served his nation as a decorated Lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, later distinguishing himself in civilian life by practicing law, which he prepared for at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. After earning his JD, he practiced for several years, both privately and in law firms, focusing on corporate and securities law, particularly in the State of Delaware.
Recognizing an underserved area of finance, John Kai Lassen established the firm of Rockwick Capital, LLC, in 2008. Many owners of in-ground assets, like precious metals and oil, do not have the funding to extract them. His company provides funding against the value of those assets. His training and experience often permit him to develop funding packages in a matter of just a few weeks.
John Kai Lassen actively participates in the affairs of his community. He belongs to the Rotary Club of Wilmington, having served the organization in a number of capacities over the years, and Rotary District 7630, which includes all 40 Rotary Clubs in Delaware and on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He also has served for the past 25 years on the Conservancy Committee of the Delaware Nature Society, which has protected over 15,000 acres of wetlands and waterways in Delaware. He has also recently been elected to the Yale Alumni Fund Board of Directors.
