Bill Ryerson is the founder and past president of Population Media Center, a nonprofit organization focused on addressing and improving family and reproductive health issues in developing countries through mass media entertainment and education programs. A long-time advocate of reproductive health concerns and the role they play in other social issues such as population movement and migration (emigration and immigration), Bill Ryerson has spent over four decades studying, implementing, and advancing measures that positively impact human health and family planning concerns. Mr. Ryerson founded Population Media Center in 1998 and currently serves on the organization’s board of directors.

In addition to his directorship responsibilities with Population Media Center, William Ryerson serves as chair and chief executive officer of Population Institute. The organization seeks to raise awareness among the media, policy makers, and other groups of the connection between population growth and many of today’s most prominent social issues such as food and energy security, the sustainability of natural resources, and climate change.

Prior to founding Population Media Center, Mr. Ryerson worked as a consultant from 1982 to 1998 for family planning, health, and social service organizations both within the U.S. and internationally. From 1986 to 1998, William Ryerson also served as executive vice president of Population Communications International, a reproductive health advocacy group working in Africa, Asia, and Latin America through mass media communications.

Other positions Mr. Ryerson has held include associate director for Planned Parenthood of northern New England and director of development for Planned Parenthood of southeastern Pennsylvania. Mr. Ryerson began his work in reproductive health issues in 1973, working as director of the youth and student division for The Population Institute in Washington, D.C.
